Aaron Bushnell’s act [sacrifice, statement, plead] was so so powerful and tragic- the meaning of a life and the extent to which people are pushed to have their sorrows and cries heard, it is hard to be emphasized as deeply as this. I loved your take on this; what does it mean to burn? How do we burn in our lives? and might I add: how do we burn together? liberation is a group effort. I really enjoyed the, perhaps a bit, of hopefulness in this- to take care of ourselves, loving the growth and development, and remaining strong in our efforts to make change despite a political and social environment seeming full of despair. To say something [to burn] and having one person hear is better than to stay neutral.
A truly insightful comment from a brilliant former student, and writer herself, warms me and gives ME hope! Sorry for calling you out there Gaia but I love watching your voice grow in strength and to see your nimble, principled mind in action. Thank you for these thoughts. I think you’re right — and it’s why we keep writing, isn’t it? To have even one person witness the burn? To witness it ourselves, to document it, to put it in the record?
